What does Cardinal Biologicals Inc. do with your personal information collected by our website application?

We take steps to ensure we only collect the minimum amount of information on our website necessary to start the process. Our website is also protected by a SSL certificate, so that your information is transmitted securely.

What does Cardinal Biologicals Inc. do with your Private Health Information (PHI) post donation?

Your Private Health Information is only used to determine edibility through FDA regulations and is not collected until you consent, and the donation is completed. Privacy is one of our top concerns and we would never sell your personal information. We will not contact you or your family after the donation is complete unless you would like to talk to us, in which case our contact information is provided to all donors.

What tissues can be donated?

Birth tissue, such as the placenta, umbilical cord, and amniotic fluid can all be donated as well as a foreskin from circumcisions. You may choose one, all, or none of the above as a gift.

Can you sell your donated birth tissue?

Due to federal regulations, you are unable to be compensated for your donation in any way. This is purely a donation to helps better lives. There is also no cost associated with your donation.

What do hospitals do with birth tissue if it’s not donated?

The health and safety of you and your baby is the most important. If your doctor deems it necessary to send your placenta for testing that comes first. Otherwise, the hospital will normally dispose the birth tissue as medical waste. Instead of that, you can donate your birth tissue to help others through healing.

What kind of health issues can benefit from my donation?

Donated tissue can be used to make tissue grafts that can promote healing, prevent infection, reduce scars, and reduce inflammation. Birth tissue can be used for wound care, burn victims, and ocular applications. There are many healing properties in the tissue, it is antimicrobial and does not cause the body to release an autoimmune response. Other applications into research can help mothers such as yourself have a healthier pregnancy.

Are there any risks?

There are no risks involved with donation, no additional surgical procedures are needed, and donations only occur after your safe delivery.

What is the process once I am at the hospital to give birth?

If you have completed pre-registration majority of the work is done. If you chose not to pre-register that is completely acceptable. Simply inform your nurse once you arrive to your hospital and they will help you through the process. Please refer to the What’s the Process page for more information.
